Languages

L:

We've had a question about language differences. Rwanda has 3 official languages- Kinyarwanda, French, and English. Kinyarwanda is the main language, so we will not speak the same language as our new little ones. We'll learn some useful phrases in Kinyarwanda before we go, but thankfully, much can be communicated through gestures, facial expressions, and hugs. And it's amazing how God has given kids the ability to learn languages so quickly. Before we know it, they'll probably be talking our ears off in English!

  1. Does that mean you are getting children from Rwanda instead of China?

Nope, we are planning on adopting from both countries. Two from Rwanda and one from China. It looks like China could still be awhile.

  3. Kids do pick up languages so quickly! When I nannied for 2 German girls ages 4 & 5, I noticed that I didn't need to translate questions for them after about 2 weeks. They would start answering in German before I had a chance to translate the question. It was amazing to see them progress because they weren't being taught English or being helped to learn. They were just living surrounded by it and picked it up.
